February in Florida
training is worthless. By decreasing Elliott’s starch intake and increasing his fat and amino acids, he has gained muscle, and his coat condition has improved dramatically. Bruce believes that 3-Day Event horses are finely tuned athletes. They need to be well taken care of in order to perform at the level that we expect of them.
I competed at four competitions while I was in Florida. At Rocking Horse Winter I Horse Trials in Altoona, FL, we finished 3 rd. At Poplar Place Farm, in Hamilton, GA we finished 5 th. At Rocking Horse Winter II we finished 4 th. And at Rocking Horse Winter III we withdrew before cross-country due to heavy rain. It was very exciting to be at the same competitions with the likes of Bruce and Buck Davidson, Karen and David O’Connor, Darren Chiacchia, Kim Vinoski-Severson, and all of the other talented riders that I have looked up to over the years.
One of my goals while in Florida was to qualify for a CCI**. With my successes at these shows, we are now qualified to compete at the Radnor International 3 Day Event in Pennsylvania this fall.
