Having the opportunity to go to Florida and ride under the five-time Olympian Bruce Davidson, Sr. was an amazing experience. Not only did I gain valuable riding experience, but I also learned a lot about equine nutrition and stable management. I was also able to compete on numerous occasions.
Bruce taught me to get a new level of connection in the bridle with my horse, Elliott. He really likes the horses to be up in the rider’s hand, and engaging their hind legs at all times. He focuses on having a steady tempo, and not rushing the horse’s rhythm. Importance was always placed on quality of gaits. This emphasis on connection and rhythm helped our jumping tremendously. We worked a lot on gymnastic lines and adjustability in between fences. By the end of our time with Bruce, Elliott was much more responsive and his jump had become much more powerful.
